2 Videos -- 1 more coming later today

I took this video in June. And then promptly forgot about it. The house is VERY messy and laundry needed to be hung (what's new?). The video is sorta long, about 4 minutes, but still cute. I was focusing on getting Alex's new words on video so that's why it seems like I'm avoiding Kairi... sorry about that.

And now a video of the house. It's still not completely unpacked, a little messy, and such, but this should give you an idea. :)

Video of the kids coming later today -- have to edit it first.

Rocky Road

The past few weeks have been rough. We knew that things were going to be tight this payday, but we didn't know that we were going to be scrounging for grocery money. After having an unauthorized debit leave our account -- and cause a few bounced checks -- we were in a panic.

Add that to needing a new place to live. (Have I mentioned that my landlord put my house on the market without informing me first?) And needless to say I've been stressed.

But things are starting to come together again. It looks like bills WILL be paid -- I've never enjoyed paying a bill more than I did this morning. LOL

And we've found a place to live! We're submitting our application today for a condo. It's NICE. And it will save us almost $300/mo! Plus, the kitchen. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Seriously. Here, see for yourself:

I've seen the kitchen of the unit we're moving into, and yes -- it's THAT nice. :D I'm extremely excited about the move.

But here's the best news, Chris' deployment date has been pushed back! Instead of leaving 2 days before Thanksgiving, he'll be leaving sometime in January! We're going to Texas for the holidays and my brother's wedding as a family, thanks to this. It does mean that my grandmother isn't coming out when she planned on it, but I have to say that I'll take the trade. I am so happy that my husband will be home for a little longer!

So during my blogging-absence, things really have been like Rocky Road ice cream for us. Looks rough, but in the end God DOES provide (and has people help provide), and that is the sweetest flavor of all.

Oh, and maybe I should name my blog posts when I'm not fasting. Everything I thought of was related to food somehow........

Lots of Thoughts

First of all, thanks to you all for being around over the last few weeks. It was good to know I could vent to ya'll or just mourn with a sympathetic ear. But I'm working on moving on with life. And my journey to a new normal started with going home!

Tuesday afternoon my mother-in-law arrived in Midland with my car. I knew that the brakes should probably be replaced before I drove anywhere else, so we dropped the car off at Midas Wednesday morning. Oh boy am I glad I did that! So many brake problems ... oy vey. But $540 and 6.5 hours later, I had my car back and we were on the road to my mother-in-law's house. In case you didn't know, she lives on the opposite side of Texas from my parents. It was an 8 hour drive. We made it a little after midnight. I spent Thursday afternoon at their house and enjoyed about 7 hours of sleep that night -- the most sleep I'd had in over a week!

Then Friday morning I woke up and decided that I wanted to make my 2 day trip to Florida take only 1 day. That's right, I drove over 16 hrs in one day ... but we made it home last night! I've enjoyed spending time with Chris -- man I missed him. And the kids are acting so much better now that we've been home.

Kairi has not stopped talking about how her daddy isn't far away anymore. She'll go up to him and say "Daddy, you far away? No! You not far away! YOU HERE!!!!!!" Get the idea that we had to tell her several times over the last month that Daddy was far away?

She also has gone through the house declaring everything she sees to be hers. ;)
"My car!"
"My plate!"
"My doctor toy!"
"My book!"
"My udder book!"
"My new toy!"
"My baby!"
"My bed!"
"My pillow!"

Alex just runs from one room to the other squealing. Oh, and apparently he's comfortable enough to begin throwing fits and saying no. He doesn't do those things in public 90% of the time, but when he's secure in his environment he does. I guess he's been pretty secure today.

Once upon a time I played the violin. Did you know that? I wasn't very good. I didn't practice, I had anxiety attacks every time I had to play solo for a chair test, and I allowed a certain orchestra director to convince me that I wouldn't be good no matter how hard I tried. So I didn't try. I just barely hung in during orchestra. And then I quit my junior year. I got tired of being told how badly I sucked by my director when one of my biggest problems with the anxiety attacks was his constant criticism before I even began playing.

So while I loved the music, I put my violins away and just knew that I would insist that my children learn at an early age and always be encouraged -- never discouraged (and REQUIRED to practice).

Well, my husband is musically talented. He's been encouraging me to at least become familiar with my instrument again, so that I can help Kairi understand the instruments and so that we can both show her a love of music.

While at home I found my old violins (well, 2 of the 3) and brought them back with me. I have spent the evening playing around on the instrument. If I'm this decent after 8-9 years of not playing, I could never have been terrible! I seriously can draw a decent sound out and definitely recognize when I'm out of tune. So I'm going to practice every day and I'm going to learn to play! I want to be confident and dedicated to the violin so that Kairi never sees me shy away from playing in front of someone. I want that confidence to be an example to her. :) Yay for the violin! Besides, it's good therapy. It always helped me feel better.

Monday I'm calling the appointment line and getting an appointment for my hands/joints. I have been avoiding making the call for various reasons, but with Grandad Wall gone, most of my excuses have also passed. And if I'm playing the violin, I'm going to need my hands to work with me!

Dear Blog, I Missed You!

We're home! Hurray! I missed my bed. It's so much more comfortable than any other one that I've ever slept on. I don't know what I'm going to do when I buy a bigger bed. Finding one this comfy is going to be really hard.

So the trip was long. Good, but long. I obviously didn't get to see my family in Midland. I won't complain about that too much for fear I'll just become bitter about it.

So without further ado, the results from this trip. You can decide whether they're good or bad for yourself:

~My kids have foam swords.
~Alex is officially forward-facing.
~Kairi used the potty and only the potty on the trip home.
~My kids have matching rubber balls. You know the ones -- big bin at WalMart -- swirly colors on them.
~Alex's favorite word is "off" which can mean off, out, up, down, or in.
~Alex knows how to take disposable diapers off.
~My car is still in Texas. We have my mil's truck.
~I have my kids' toy chest back. Finally.
~My husband almost died when he suggested not taking the (empty) toy chest with us.
~Kairi can kick the seat in front of her hard enough to force it to go forward one notch.
~I read 2 1/2 books.

One other noteworthy thing -- if you volunteer to watch someone's house and they tell you that the key is in the lockbox on the frontdoor and then give you the combo to the lockbox, then for all that is good in this world, don't take the key out of the lockbox and put it on your key chain, and if you do put it back the day you know that the family is returning home. That key was supposed to be there in case my landlord had to have immediate access. And it's the only key we've got right now. Kairi did not appreciate getting home just for us to have to load her back up in the truck to go get the key. As a matter of fact, she screamed no at the top of her lungs while kicking and throwing things the entire 20 minute drive to the house where my key was being held hostage. She passed out on the way back. I will not complain any more than that about the key. My friend did clean up the dog's messes for an entire week and did quite a bit for us. I just wish that I hadn't had to go get my key when the lockbox was a perfectly safe place to keep it.
